YAY! MEGHAN & CHEYNE WON AMAZING RACE!i was sad that Tabitha was out of Singapore idol.
and seriously, Sezari dun have that star "aura"
hope that Sylvia will win the Singapore idol! Back from Cambodia!
or rather i came back from Cambodia yesterday.
and i came back from class chalet today.
First thing first.
Cambodia!
it is a wonderful place.
i like the pace of the country.
unlike Singapore. so rush, so busy.
Cambodia is different. peaceful, quiet.
the most important thing there is that the people are willing to learn.
first day at Don Bosco was really an eye opener.
Don Bosco is an Organisation that help poor students.
so we are there to teach the students english, build a basketball court and paint a mural.
the students arrive at 7am and the first thing they do
is to pick up the brooms and sweep their classrooms.
some others will help out in the kitchen , while others help to wash the toilet.
the students there are like that. very discipline. very polite.
whenever they walk past us, they will greet us.
(this is not a common sight in schools in Singapore)
though our job is to teach them basic english, but somehow i feel that it is the other way round.
they taught us to be more initiated, more gracious, more polite.
must have self discipline.
Another program that we had, is to go to the Paul Temp In Centre and teach people around our age english.
at there, i made many new cambodian friends. they are rather friendly.
however was rather sad to leave them on the last day.
they even ask us to come back soon.
i will definitely visit cambodia again.
this trp was a fun and fulfilling one.
i learnt to communicate well with my team and learnt that education is important. but not everyone have the chance of studying, thus since i have the opportunity to study, i must focus and do well.
And also, not to take things for granted. cherish everyone and everything that we have.
look forward to visit my friends in Cambodia soon. (:

back from batam. (:for my 100th post, i shall take time to reflect on my trip to batam.
on tue, 17 nov,
i sat on a direct bus to harborfront which almost kill me cos it takes around 2 hours.
board the ferry and reached batam in an hour.
batam is slightly smaller than singapore, but i think it looks similar to singapore.
we went to hotel to check in before going to Al Fateh Orphanage.
Al Fateh orphanage.
it is actually quite sad to see the situation there.
the people there are living in a very simple environment.
the adults had only one thing to do, that is to build more rooms for their people.
and the children?
they cannot go to sch.
there are also mental patients locked up in the rooms.
but it was quite heartening to see them with their friendly smile and warmly welcome us to their place.
and seeing the children so happy, really makes me wonder:
Are we taking things for granted?
Are we not satisfied with what we have now?
the children there had nothing, but they are already very happy.
the adults(workers) there had to endure scorching heat to build their homes,
but they are happy.
Can we just be content with what we have now and stop asking for more?
My class split in to 2 groups and i was in the "plastering group"
plastering was tough but looking from another point of view, it can be quite cool and fun.
we had to mix the sand and the cement all tgt and
spread them on the walls (plaster the walls)
everyone was just concentrating on doing our work well and hoping that we can cover as many parts of the wall as possible.
after all, our aim is to help them ease their workload.
we did these for 3 days.
on the last day (friday)
we give out presents for the people in the orphanage.
they look very excited and were thrilled when they received their presents.
you must really be there to sense their happiness.
overall, it was quite a memorable trip.
i learnt a lot from this trip.
and on a last note:
treasure and cherish things/love ones around you.
Be contented with what you have now,
besides life is short, you may not know what happen tomorrow
or in the future. (:

Amazing Race!it was a non-elimination round today.
globetrotters first.
meghan and cheyne 2nd.
Brian and Ericka 3rd (zebra team)
sam and dan 4th
pinky and father last (wasn't eliminated)
zebra team and pinky team took the later flight (so unlucky)
the switchback was a difficult one.
teams must unroll haystack and find the flag.
this task was from the previous seasons
and there was one team who unrolled 100+ haystack
for over 8hours
but they found nothing and was eliminated.
i think that is the reason why now,
it was a non-elimination round
hate globetrotters and pinky.
support meghan and cheyne. (gogogo!)
BYE! (:
